The bird’s stylized profile strips away all superfluous detail, allowing the natural quality of the material to shine through and resulting in an understated yet instantly recognizable piece.

Details and Measures
Design
L’Oiseau emerged from Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec’s exploration of natural and archetypal forms. The figure of the bird is distilled into a few soft, continuous volumes, deliberately avoiding the overly precious or sentimental aesthetic often found in decorative animal sculptures. The result is an almost archaic form, defined by a rigorous simplicity that allows the object to integrate naturally into contemporary interiors. Its compact silhouette shifts in appearance depending on the viewing angle, transforming L’Oiseau into a small sculptural element that adds personality without dominating the space.
Materials and Craftsmanship
The wooden version is crafted from solid maple; the wood is milled and sanded to create a smooth, seamless surface, then finished with a natural lacquer that highlights the light tone and grain of the maple. This artisanal process introduces subtle, natural variations, ensuring that every L’Oiseau is unique. Meanwhile, the version in polished ceramic adds a touch of color to any setting.
Versatility and Adaptability
Thanks to its modest dimensions, L’Oiseau can be placed on shelves, bookcases, sideboards, desks, console tables, or coffee tables, serving as a subtle focal point within a space. The light-toned wood pairs effortlessly with natural timber, lacquered surfaces, marble, glass, and metal, making the object equally well-suited to minimalist environments and interiors rich in varied textures. The L’Oiseau family also includes ceramic versions, which expand decorative possibilities through various colors and finishes.
