Sunflower Clock

Design

The Sunflower Clock is part of George Nelson’s celebrated Wall Clocks collection, which emerged from the designer’s reflections on how time is perceived and read. Nelson realized that the position of the hands alone is sufficient to tell the time, rendering traditional numbers on a dial superfluous. This allowed the clock to become a true decorative element for interior spaces. In the Sunflower Clock, this concept takes shape through a concentric sequence of elements that evoke the petals of a sunflower. Its generous diameter and depth create a graphic, three-dimensional effect that defines the entire wall.

Materials and Finishes

The Sunflower Clock showcases wood through a meticulously crafted radial structure. The birch version offers a more natural, luminous quality, while the combination of black ash and brass introduces a bolder, more sophisticated contrast. The three-dimensional nature of the structure allows light to cast shadows and create variations on the wall, further accentuating the clock’s sculptural character.

Functionality

The Sunflower Clock features a high-quality quartz movement, engineered for precision and reliability in everyday use. Like other Nelson Wall Clocks, the dial is entirely free of numbers; the time is read by observing the position of the hands in relation to the rhythmic, radial elements. Powered by batteries, the clock can be mounted anywhere on a wall without the need for electrical connections.

With a diameter of 75 cm, the Sunflower Clock makes a significant statement and can serve as the focal point on a large wall.
