Design

The Lampe de Bureau serves as an immediate expression of Jean Prouvé’s design methodology, in which form, material, and function are intrinsically linked. Its body is fashioned from a single sheet of steel, bent to simultaneously serve as both the structure and a light shade. The angled surface catches the light from the source and directs it downward, transforming a remarkably simple construction technique into an object with a strong graphic identity. Its compact proportions and minimalist profile remain strikingly modern, making the Lampe de Bureau a subtle yet distinctive presence on any desk.

Lighting and Functionality

The Lampe de Bureau uses an E14 base light source and, in its European configuration, comes with a ToLEDo RT Candle bulb. The warm, 2700 K light creates a comfortable atmosphere for desks, console tables, and other small surfaces. The lamp is not dimmable and supports a maximum wattage of 12 W. The switch is located along the power cord, ensuring ease of use for daily tasks.

Materials and Finishes

The lamp is made of powder-coated sheet steel—a choice consistent with Prouvé’s ongoing exploration of industrial production and metalworking. The colors are drawn from the palette historically used by Jean Prouvé, allowing the lamp to either blend in more discreetly or serve as a vibrant chromatic accent on a desk.

Versatility and Adaptability

Measuring just 24 × 14.5 × 22.5 cm, the Lampe de Bureau can easily be placed on desks, writing tables, console tables, shelves, and bedside tables. Its essential design language allows it to complement both pieces from the Jean Prouvé collection and interiors with a contemporary, industrial, or modernist aesthetic. Furthermore, the range of available colors makes it possible to use the lamp as a coordinated element within a space or as a subtle point of contrast.
