Details and Measures
Design
Butterfly is distinguished by its distinctive silhouette composed of two symmetrical shells, whose curvature recalls the movement of a butterfly's wings. The soft, continuous profile expresses a refined balance between formal simplicity, precision construction, and natural appeal. The project reflects Sori Yanagi's ability to combine traditional Japanese craftsmanship with a modern language, reinterpreting plywood bending techniques developed in 20th-century design. The result is a compact, poetic, and timeless stool.
Comfort and functionality
The seat is defined by curved, enveloping surfaces, designed to offer stable and comfortable support. The essential structure eliminates any superfluous elements, maintaining a high level of formal and functional quality. The brass finishes add a precious detail to the composition, highlighting the connection between the two shells and contributing to the product's recognizability.
Versatility and adaptability
Thanks to its compact size and strong aesthetic, Butterfly can be used as a stool, occasional seat, or small decorative element. It fits naturally into living rooms, bedrooms, entryways, studies, and contract spaces. It can complement modern furnishings, minimalist interiors, oriental-inspired settings, or spaces featuring natural materials. Its discreet yet iconic presence also makes it ideal as an accent piece next to an armchair, a bookcase, or in a reading area.
