Design

The Eye Clock is part of George Nelson’s renowned Wall Clocks collection, which emerged from a radical rethinking of how time is read. By removing the numbers from the dial, Nelson relied solely on the position of the hands to indicate the time, effectively turning the clock into a distinct piece of interior decor. The form of the Eye Clock develops this concept through a highly recognizable horizontal composition. The outer structure suggests the profile of an eye, while the radial elements create a dynamic graphic rhythm around the center. The result is a functional yet highly decorative object—a quintessential expression of 1950s aesthetics.

Materials and Finishes

Walnut runs horizontally through the composition, introducing a natural element, while brass forms the metallic structure, lending it a sophisticated character.
